What if your site has an existing Events page?

If you have created a static page with the same URL as a dynamically generated page, such as a views page, your site will display the static page and not the dynamically generated page. Some additional steps are required to display the dynamic page.

Let's look at the example of an existing Events page that uses the same URL alias as the dynamic Events page (i.e. “[your site url]/events”).

Option 1: Delete the existing Events page

If site managers have no need for their previously created Events page, they can proceed with deleting it. After deletion, the new dynamic Events page should be viewable at "/events".

  1. Navigate to your previously created Events page.
  2. Click on the Delete icon (looks like a trash can) in the page administrative toolbar.
  3. A second delete confirmation will appear. To confirm deletion, click Delete.

Option 2: Keep the existing Events page and update the url redirects

If site managers would like to keep their existing Events page, a few url adjustments are needed so the dynamic Events page is viewable at "/events".

  1. Navigate to your previously created Events page, and click Edit on the page administrative toolbar.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the Edit page, and select the URL Alias tab.
  3. Uncheck “Generate automatic URL alias” to create a custom alias.
  4. Change the URL of the page from /events to /events-old (or a different url as desired).
  5. Click Save.
  6. Once the url has changed, a url redirect will automatically be created so that "/events" will still route to "/events-old". This redirect must be deleted so that "/events" will route to the new dynamic Events page.
  7. Staying on the previously created Events page, click Edit on the page administrative toolbar.
  8. Scroll to the bottom of the Edit page, and select the URL redirects tab.
  9. A url redirect from "/events" should be shown.
  10. To delete this redirect, click on the arrow icon next to Edit under the Operations column, and select Delete.
  11. A second delete confirmation will appear. To confirm deletion, click Delete.
  12. The dynamic Events page should now be viewable at "/events", with the previously created Events page viewable at "/events-old".
