What if your site has an existing News page?

For site managers with an existing News page that uses the same URL alias as the dynamic News page (i.e. “[your site url]/news”), some additional steps are required to display the dynamic News List page.

Option 1: Delete the existing news page

If site managers have no need for their previously created news page, they can proceed with deleting it. After deletion, the new dynamic News List page should be viewable at “/news”.

  1. Navigate to your previously created News Page
  2. Click on the Delete button in the page administrative toolbar.
  3. Confirm deletion by clicking on the additional Delete button that appears.

Option 2: Keep the existing news page and update the url redirects

If site managers would like to keep their existing News page, a few url adjustments are needed so the dynamic News page is viewable at “/news”.

  1. Navigate to your previously created News page, and click Edit on the page administrative toolbar.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the Edit page, and select the URL Alias tab.
  3. Uncheck “Generate automatic URL alias” to create a custom alias.
  4. Change the URL alias of the existing News page from “/news” to “/news-old” (or a different url as desired).
  5. Click Save.

  1. Once you have saved your change, a url redirect will automatically be created so that “/news” will still route to “/news-old”. This redirect must be deleted so that “/news” will route to the new dynamic News List page.
  2. Staying on the previously created News Page, click Edit on the page administrative toolbar.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Edit page, and select the URL redirects tab.
  4. A url redirect from “/news” should be shown.
  5. To delete this redirect, click on the dropdown icon next to Edit under Operations, and select Delete.
  6. Confirm deletion by clicking on the additional Delete button that appears.
  7. The dynamic news page should now be viewable at “/news”, with the previously created news page viewable at “/news-old”.
