Lists

The Lists Paragraph provides the ability to dynamically generate a list of Events, News, People, or Publications to display throughout your site.

Lists can be displayed in a card or list format for News, a card, list, or "past events list" format for Events, and as a grid for People. Publications can be displayed in either APA or Chicago citation styles. Lists can be adjusted to display a specific numbers of items, and specific lists can be created based on taxonomy terms.

See below for some example Lists. For potential use cases for Lists, as well as a comparison between Lists and the Teaser Paragraphs, see Comparing Teaser and Lists.

Lists Components

The Lists paragraph is made up of four parts:

  • List Format: In the List Format section, you have the ability to choose your desired content (Events, News, or People), and the display format. Available advanced options also allow for you to customize your list based on taxonomy terms, as well as override the default number of items displayed.
  • Headline: Optional headline that will appear above the list items in large font.
  • Description: Optional description that will appear below the headline and above the list items.
  • Button URL and Link Text: Optional button that is displayed underneath the list items.

List Display

Events can be displayed in a card, list, or past events list format. News can be displayed in a card or list format. People can be displayed in a grid format. Publications can be displayed in either APA or Chicago citation styles. By default, the card format displays 3 cards, while the list and grid format will display all the items by default.

By utilizing the advanced option settings for these displays, you can customize your list by taxonomy terms, or change the default number of items displayed in your list.

Creating a custom list with taxonomy terms

By default, Event and News Lists will display your most recent item, while People will be shown alphabetically. If you would like to customize which Events, News, People, or Publications appear in a list, you can create a custom list based on your Events, NewsPerson, and Publication taxonomy terms. To do this, enter your term(s) in the Advanced Options field Arguments. Keep in mind that terms with spaces in them will most likely include a hyphen (e.g. the term for “In the News” would be “in-the-news”).

Managing the number of items in your list

By default, the cards format displays 3 items, while the list and grid format will display all the items by default. If you would like to override the default number of list items displayed, simply enter your desired number of items in the Advanced Options field Number of items. This also disables the pager if one is configured.
